Which kitchen appliances your subscription can actually run

The rule is simple and it never fails: anything that heats is expensive in amps, anything that spins is cheap. A motor is one or two amps. An element is six to nine.

Lebanon runs at 220 volts, so amps are just watts divided by 220. A 5-amp subscription is 1,100 watts for the whole house — the fridge, the lights, the router, the television, and whatever you are about to plug into the kitchen counter.

That number is why some appliances feel fine and others trip the line the moment you switch them on.

Two appliances we sell state no wattage on the box, so there is no figure for them here. Ask us and we will read the plate rather than guess.

Anything that spins, buy freely. Anything that heats, check your subscription first.

What this means when you are actually shopping

On 2.5 amps (550 W) the heating appliances are out, full stop. Mixers, blenders and grinders are fine.

On 5 amps (1,100 W) you can run one heating appliance if you are careful about what else is on — and the fridge starting at the wrong moment will still trip you.

On 10 amps (2,200 W) almost everything on that list works, one at a time.

What it costs

Want to stop guessing? A metering switch shows you exactly what each appliance pulls, on its own screen. Run the kettle once with it fitted and you will never argue about the bill again.

The honest advice

If you are on 5 amps, do not buy the sandwich maker expecting to use it in the evening while the rest of the house is on. It is not a bad appliance; it is 9 amps.

Buy it if you have city power some hours of the day and you will use it then. We would rather tell you that now than take the order and hear about it later.

5 amps: exactly what fits — the same arithmetic for the whole house, not just the kitchen.

Your water heater is 9 amps — the biggest heating load in the house, and the one worth controlling properly.
