For an empty house, the trap is not the camera — it is the connection. If everything runs on WiFi, then the day the internet drops you are not being watched and nobody tells you.

The detail that decides whether any of it works
An empty house has nobody to reset the router. So the failure runs in one direction: power drops, router dies, and every WiFi device in that house stops reporting. The camera is not broken. It is simply alone.
There are two honest ways to deal with that, and you can do both.
Keep the router alive. A DC UPS for $18 — the whole story is in the router guide.
Do not depend on the internet at all. A GSM alarm carries its own SIM, so it calls and messages you over the mobile network. When the line is down, that is the one thing still talking.
For a house you visit twice a year, an alarm on a SIM card beats a better camera on WiFi.
The cheap version that covers most of it
If the house is checked on now and then and you mainly want to catch a problem early, this is the practical set. A camera to look, a sensor on the door, and a leak sensor on the floor of the bathroom or next to the tank.
The leak sensor is the one people skip and then wish they had not. Water running for a week in a closed flat does more damage than a break-in.
Careful
A leak sensor tells you. A smart water valve actually shuts the water off. For a house standing empty for months, the valve is the one worth the extra money.
