Nobody needs a system. They need to know how full the tank is without climbing to it.
An ultrasonic sensor sits above the water and measures the distance down to the surface. Nothing sits in the water, so nothing corrodes and nothing fouls. The reading goes to the Tuya or Smart Life app on your phone.
The LCD version is worth the difference if the tank is somewhere you walk past anyway — you get the number on the wall as well as on the phone.
Nobody wants a smart home. They want to know whether there is water in the tank.
The $12 part that catches the expensive failure
A leak sensor is two contacts. Water bridges them and your phone goes off.
🔴 Where you put it decides whether it works. Not next to the tank — on the floor at the lowest point water would reach first, which is usually the drain side or the doorway of the tank room. Water finds the low point before it finds the tank base.
Do this first
If you want it to stop rather than just tell you, a smart water valve closes the line from the app. Worth it for a flat that stands empty, or if the tank is above a finished ceiling.
