The one that reaches into the corners

Every round robot vacuum has the same weakness: it cannot get into a corner or tight along a skirting board, because it is a circle. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum H50 Pro answers that with a mop arm that extends outward and swings to the side, so the pad reaches past the edge of the body and into the places the robot itself cannot enter.

15,000Pa, and a dock that does the rest

This is the strongest suction in the range at 15,000Pa, with the same two spinning mop pads working behind it. Back at the dock it empties itself into a 2.5-litre bag — up to 75 days of dust — then washes the mop pads and dries them with air. You change a bag every couple of months and otherwise leave it alone.

It maps the flat before it cleans it

LDS laser navigation builds a map and drives in straight passes, with obstacle detection for whatever is on the floor and carpet identification so it knows where the rugs are. The 5200mAh battery handles a normal home, and at 93mm tall it goes under most furniture.

• Robot Vacuum H50 Pro — $490 (this one): the most suction, and the extendable side-swinging arm for corners and edges.
