Why this matters in Lebanon — the honest version
Here is the situation almost every household in this country is living with.
EDL supplies roughly three to four hours a day nationally. The gap is filled by the building moteur — a subscription typically sold by the ampere, and typically costing $100 to $320 a month. Across the country, households are now spending something in the region of 44% of their income on energy. Solar has grown roughly tenfold since 2021, but it is still only around 4% of households — for the overwhelming majority, the real daily reality is EDL and the moteur, several changeovers a day, every day.
Every one of those changeovers is a small, violent event for your appliances. Power drops. Voltage sags and then spikes. The compressor in your fridge restarts under load. The router reboots. The inverter clicks over. Over months and years, that is what kills a fridge motor, a washing machine board, a TV power supply, an air conditioner.
So do the arithmetic honestly. You are already paying somewhere between $1,200 and $3,800 a year for generator power alone. A single replacement fridge or AC unit costs more than everything on this page put together. An automatic transfer switch is $42. Once.
We are not going to tell you it will change your life. We are telling you it is one of the very few $42 purchases in this shop that pays for itself the first time it does its job.
The automatic transfer switch (ATS)
EARU 2P ATS Dual Power Automatic Transfer Breaker — $42 · 17 reviews at 5.0
What it does, plainly. It takes two power inputs — input 1: city power (EDL), input 2: the generator — and connects whichever one is healthy to your circuit, switching over automatically when one fails or comes back. It mounts on a standard DIN rail in your distribution board. It is designed to monitor both supplies and protect against over-voltage, under-voltage, phase loss, short circuit and overload.
What it saves you. Two things. First, the manual changeover — no more going to the board to flip a switch, no more forgetting and running the moteur bill while EDL is back on, no more coming home to find the flat has been dark for six hours because nobody was there to switch it. Second, the exposure: your appliances stop riding out the raw transition between two sources.
17 customers have reviewed this product and every one of them rated it 5 stars. That is the highest concentration of positive feedback on any product in our power range, and it is why this page exists.
Be aware of one thing before you order: an ATS is installed in your distribution board and wired to two live supplies. This is a licensed-electrician job, always, with no exceptions. Anyone who tells you otherwise should not be near your board. Send us a photo of your board on WhatsApp at +961 81 009 594 and we will tell you whether the unit suits your setup and roughly what the install involves, before you spend anything. If we think it is wrong for you, we will say so.
Protecting against voltage — the other half of the problem
- EARU Automatic Voltage & Surge Current Limiter Protector — $13. Works on AC 220–240V up to 16A, with under-voltage protection adjustable between 140V and 200V, over-voltage protection, over-current protection, an adjustable power-on delay of 5–300 seconds and automatic recovery. It also has a built-in kWh meter.
Why the delay matters: when the moteur starts, the supply is unstable for the first few seconds. A delay stops your appliance from switching on into that mess. This is, for $13, the single most cost-effective protection device we sell — put it on the fridge, the AC, or the TV wall. - EARU Smart RCBO with Earth Leakage Protection, 63A — $22. This is the comprehensive one. Adjustable 1–63A, AC 110V/230V, digital display, and it runs in the Tuya / Smart Life app. Verified settings from the unit: under-voltage protection adjustable 90–190V (default 170V), over-voltage 100–300V (default 270V), over-current 10–80A (default 50A), reconnect delay 5–90 seconds (default 30s), earth-leakage protection 10–99mA, plus voltage, amp and energy metering. It has a memory function, so it retains your kWh and your protection settings through a power cut — which, here, is not a small detail.
Earth leakage protection is the one that protects people, not appliances. In older Lebanese buildings with tired wiring and improvised earthing, it is worth having.
Smart circuit breakers — see it and switch it from your phone
- EARU 1P Tuya WiFi MCB Smart Circuit Breaker 63A — $17, 17 reviews at 5.0. AC 80–240V, DIN rail, WiFi 2.4 GHz, Tuya / Smart Life app, real-time kWh, scheduling, countdown, over-current protection, voice control, and over 100,000 mechanical operations rated life.
- EARU 2P WiFi Smart Circuit Breaker + Power Meter 63A — $26. eWeLink app, AC 100–240V, 30mA residual current rating, working range −25°C to 70°C, threshold-based auto cut-off on power, current or voltage, and 100,000+ operations.
- EARU 3P WiFi Smart Circuit Breaker 80A — $36, 10 reviews at 5.0. 3P+N, AC 100–230V, eWeLink app. For three-phase supplies — small workshops, larger villas, commercial units.
- EARU 1P eWeLink WiFi MCB 63A — $14. Currently out of stock; ask us when it is due.
The practical use here is money. Put a metering breaker on the circuit you suspect — usually the water heater — and within a week you will know exactly what it costs you. Then set a schedule, or a threshold that cuts it off automatically. On a $100–$320 monthly bill, a $17 device that finds one bad habit pays back fast. Browse the full Power Meters category.
Board hardware and signalling
- EARU IP65 Waterproof Distribution Breaker Box — $7. ABS, flame-retardant PC panel, built-in 35mm DIN rail, integrated waterproof seal, knockouts top and bottom, 120 × 90 × 55 mm, cover opens to 90°. For an outdoor board, a rooftop pump, a garden supply or a site where damp and dust are a real problem.
- EARU Dual-Colour LED Signal Lamp — $5. Panel indication so you can see at a glance which supply is live.
- EARU LED Signal Lamp with Audible & Visual Buzzer — $7.
A sensible order to buy in
You do not need all of this. Most homes should work through it in this order:
- Find out where the money goes — a $17 metering smart breaker, or an $8 metering plug, on your worst circuit.
- Protect your most expensive single appliance — the $13 voltage and surge protector on the fridge or the AC.
- Automate the changeover — the $42 ATS, fitted by an electrician.
- Protect the whole board — the $22 smart RCBO with earth-leakage protection.
That is roughly $94 of hardware, spread over as long as you like, against a power bill that is already costing you thousands a year. If you would rather do it in one visit, message us and we will put the list together for your specific board.
Works with
Tuya / Smart Life app (1P MCB, smart RCBO) · eWeLink app (2P and 3P breakers) · Amazon Alexa and Google Home on the app-connected models · standard 35mm DIN rail mounting throughout. The ATS itself is an electromechanical device and needs no app to do its job.

EARU and ATS FAQs
What is an automatic transfer switch, in simple terms?
It is a device in your distribution board with two power inputs — city power (EDL) and the generator — and one output to your circuits. It watches both supplies and automatically connects whichever one is healthy, switching over on its own when one fails or returns. You stop doing the changeover by hand.
Do I need an ATS if my building already switches automatically?
If your building's moteur feeds your flat through a proper automatic changeover at the building level, you may not need one at the flat level — and we will tell you that honestly rather than sell you one. Many Lebanese buildings, though, deliver two separate feeds into the flat, or the changeover is manual, or the building's switch is old and unreliable. Send us a photo of your board on WhatsApp and we will tell you which situation you are in.
Is EARU Electric a good brand?
For low-voltage smart protection at this price point, yes — and here is our evidence rather than our opinion. EARU specialises in circuit breakers, transfer switches and protection devices. Across our EARU range, customer ratings average 5.0, with 17 five-star reviews on the ATS alone and 17 more on the 1P smart breaker. These are Lebanese customers who have installed them and lived with them. We stock EARU because it is the most complete protection range we can supply at a price ordinary households can actually afford — and because we, not a distributor abroad, are the ones who handle the warranty when something goes wrong.
Can I install an ATS myself?
No. An ATS is wired into your distribution board and connected to two live supplies. It must be installed by a licensed electrician. This is the one place in our catalogue where we will not offer a DIY route, and we would ask you not to look for one. We can refer you to a technician.
Will an ATS protect my appliances from voltage spikes?
The ATS is designed to monitor both supplies and protect against over-voltage, under-voltage, phase loss, short circuit and overload. For dedicated appliance-level protection — particularly the adjustable power-on delay that keeps your fridge from starting into an unstable generator supply — add the $13 voltage and surge protector, or protect the whole board with the $22 smart RCBO. The two work well together.
Does the ATS work with solar or an inverter?
An automatic transfer switch selects between two power sources, so in principle it can sit between any two supplies — EDL, generator, or an inverter output. Solar and battery installations vary enormously, though, and yours may already have transfer logic built into the inverter. Do not guess: send us your inverter model and a photo of the board, and we will tell you whether the ATS adds anything in your case.
What size ATS do I need for my flat?
It depends on your total load and on the ampere rating of your moteur subscription. Tell us your subscription size and what you are running — AC units, water heater, pump — and we will confirm whether this unit is right or whether you need something else. We would rather have that conversation than take an order that does not fit.
What is the difference between a smart breaker and a normal one?
A normal MCB protects the circuit and that is all. A smart breaker does the same job, and adds remote on/off from your phone, schedules and countdowns, live and historical energy metering, and configurable automatic cut-off when voltage or current crosses a threshold you set. It still protects the circuit exactly like a normal breaker if the WiFi is down — the protection is electromechanical, not software.
How do I explain this to my electrician in Arabic?
Useful terms: an automatic transfer switch is مفتاح تحويل أوتوماتيكي (many electricians will simply say ATS); a circuit breaker is قاطع كهربائي; a smart breaker is قاطع ذكي; earth-leakage protection is حماية من التسرب الأرضي; and voltage protection is حماية من تذبذب الفولت. DIN rail is universally called DIN rail.
